Usually I read fiction and, although I love fantasy, I usually shy away from books with vampires, werewolves, etc. One book caught my attention and I only found out about the vampire aspect, among other types of "not quite human" things, after I had begun reading said book.
The author is Charlaine Harris and the book title is dead until dark. This is Charlaine Harris's Sooki Stackhouse series and I have just finished her eigth book in this series. Although each one of these books can be read alone, if you start from the beginning of the series, you will understand all of the background stuff much better. You can go to www.Charlaineharris.com to get a listing of the reading order for these, and all of her, books.
Most authors have a web site and I often google the author's name and go to their site to find out reading orders for their books. I love books with reoccuring characters and if you like a book with a little romance, a little humor, and a little paranormal stuff going on, you will like all 8 of these books.
hEY AGAIN cATHIE. hAVEN'T SEEN U AROUND LATELY. i'LL HAVE TO CHECK THIS OUT. tHANKS, mIKE.
I normally don't go for vampires either, but I am a huge Nora Roberts fan so tried her trilogy that starts with Morrigan's Cross. Excellent series. But I probably won't try any other vampire books.
I haven't read that particular Nora Roberts set but I will have to check them out.
However, you should at least try the first one in the Sooki Stackhouse series just to see if you like them. It's not so much the vampire aspect that I like as it is that I truly enjoy the characters.
